Innovation Criterion
The innovation criterion has been elevated and now garners 20 percent of the weight of the application scoring. An innovative project is one that shows new thinking or new approaches to improving performance instead of replicating existing PI efforts.
Awards Ceremony
The Joint Commission’s Annual Conference and the Codman Awards presentation is in November 2008. The 2008 award recipients will be notified in October 2008.

Codman Application Data Guide and Checklist
The guide elaborates on the data portions of the Codman Award application and provides suggestions and examples of data tools and types of data that can be used to illustrate initiatives. Provided in the guide is a data checklist that can help ensure that an organization’s submission includes all of the data and other information required by The Joint Commission in order to be considered for the Codman Award.
Redesigned Codman Website
Designed to showcase the current Codman Recipients more prominently, the new website includes tools to assist in completing the Codman application as well as Journal articles submitted by Codman Recipients about their winning initiatives.
Recipients Award Package Enhancements
In addition to the Steuben crystal vase, award recipients receive an 8’x 4’ banner that recognizes the organization’s achievement. The banner can be hung in a public area and a companion brochure about the award is provided.
