2008 Ernest Amory Codman Award
The Joint Commission Names Recipients of 2008 Ernest Amory Codman Awards - 11/12/08
The Codman Award is the first health care award that recognizes excellence in performance measurement. This prestigious award recognizes achievement by organizations and individuals in the use of process and outcomes measures to improve organization performance and quality of care. Award recipients receive a specially designed Steuben crystal vase, national recognition and the opportunity to share their achievements at the Joint Commission’s Annual Conference in Chicago in November 2008.
Based on the pioneering work of Ernest Amory Codman, The Joint Commission has experienced a century of progress in what Codman called "end results." As performance measurement gains momentum, the future holds enormous potential for improvement in health care. The Joint Commission looks forward to a new millennium of excellence as performance measurement leads to greater improvements and, ultimately, better care for everyone.
The Joint Commission to refresh Codman Award program
The Joint Commission’s Ernest Amory Codman Award program is being refreshed. During the next year, The Joint Commission will take a fresh look at the application and evaluation processes as well as the program requirements. In existence for 12 years, the Codman Award program has provided a wonderful opportunity for The Joint Commission to recognize organizations and individuals doing excellent work in performance measurement.
The winners of the 2008 Codman Award will be recognized in November 2008 at The Joint Commission and Joint Commission Resources Annual Conference and the 2010 Codman Award application process will begin in the fall of 2009.
